The Role

As our Waste Contracts Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our management  team, overseeing the Teckal agreement between Yorwaste and its client and shareholder, while also managing Yorwaste’s other waste management contracts. You will work closely with our Principal Operations Manager and the Shareholders waste contract teams to ensure delivery, compliance, and continued strong working relationships.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

·       Oversee all aspects of waste contract management, including day-to-day operations, performance monitoring, and compliance with the Teckal  agreement.

·       Act as the main point of contact with internal teams and external partners, including Yorwaste and the shareholders waste contracts teams.

·       Lead on procurement, supplier relationships, and contract administration, ensuring alignment with public procurement rules and regulatory  standards.

·       Monitor KPIs, risks, and contract performance, implementing corrective action and identifying opportunities for efficiency and growth.

·       Support tender submissions, commercial assessments, and provide training to operational teams on contract requirements.

About You:

You’re an experienced contract manager with a background in waste, recycling, or environmental services—ideally working with or within local authorities. You have a strong understanding of industry legislation, operational delivery, and public sector frameworks such as Teckal agreements.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Solid experience in contract management, performance monitoring, and compliance.
  • A supportive and empathetic leadership style, with the ability to build trust, manage relationships, and guide teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence leading reviews and negotiations.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, self-motivated approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a good working knowledge of procurement or contract management systems.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, plus a full, clean UK driving licence.
  • Membership of a professional body such as CIWM and/or relevant contract management qualification
