Yorwaste is looking for an Operative to join our team at the West Harrogate Household Waste Recycling Centre. You’ll be working outdoors to provide essential services to the local community. Our site operates six days a week (closed on Wednesdays).

The Role:
In this position, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality and quantity of materials separated for recycling. Your duties will include planning and organising on-site activities, representing Yorwaste to visitors, and occasionally taking on leadership responsibilities as required. Strong written communication skills are essential for accurately completing forms and reports.
As an Operative, your daily tasks will vary and may include:
- Assisting the public in safely using the site, following all Health and Safety guidelines.
- Providing friendly, informative, and professional customer service.
- Ensuring high standards of health and safety for yourself, your team, and the public.
- Safely operating equipment and machinery, and reporting any faults or issues.
- Using our IT system to create reports and record general site details.
Having a driver’s licence and access to personal transportation is advantageous, as the site is not accessible by public transport. You may occasionally need to travel to other sites to provide additional support. This role involves working outdoors, so comfort with varying weather conditions is important.
This is a permanent position working 5 days out of 7. As our site operates 6 days a week, including bank holidays (closed on Wednesdays), flexibility in your availability is essential. You will also be expected to cover holidays and sickness, including additional hours and shifts to support this and other local HWRC sites.
