Yorwaste are currently looking for an operative to join the teams who safely and effectively run our sites across North Yorkshire. Our Sowerby and Tholthorpe sites are open 6 days’ a week (closed on Wednesdays), offering essential services for the immediate local communities. Working in an open-air environment, you will be provided with outer-wear to protect you from the elements and keep you safe on site.
You will help maximise the quality and number of materials separated for recycling, plan and organise the activities on site, be the face of Yorwaste to on site visitors and, where required, deputise for the Area Supervisor.
As a Yorwaste Operative, your day-to-day duties will vary, and may include the following;
- Helping the public use the site in a safe manner, adhering to all Health and Safety guidance.
- Providing friendly, informative and professional customer service.
- Protecting yourself and your team by promoting high standards of health and safety.
- Safely operating equipment and machinery and reporting any faults and issues.
It would be advantageous if you can reliably travel to our site which is not accessible by public transport. You may also be required to travel to other HWRC sites to support where required.

In return, we are offering an hourly rate of £11.15 per hour, working approximately 40 hours’ per week. We offer extra allowance for working Sundays and Bank Holidays, and there may be opportunity for additional hours. We can offer 20 days’ holiday per year, plus bank holidays, increasing with continuing employment.
This is a permanent role working 5 days’ out of 7. As our sites operate 6 days’ a week, including bank holidays, availability over this schedule is essential. There will also be a requirement to cover holidays and sickness when required, including additional hours and shifts supporting this and other local HWRC sites.
