About You

Are you a positive and outgoing individual looking for a new role you can get stuck into, drawing on a wealth of skills and where every day is different? We are looking for a multi-skilled operative, with an eye for detail and who would consider themselves to be hands on in their approach to work.

You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and experiences to support the Maintenance Operative with repairs, upkeep and stock recording of Yorwaste container assets. This includes skips, compactors, bins, wheels and lids. You will comply with all health and safety requirements as well as manage and maintain container assets to create a safe working environment for employees and the public.

With a keen eye for detail, you can assertively investigate and diagnose machine failure, inspect plant equipment, and react to maintenance work depending on priority.

This is a new role, which will support the Maintenance Operative in their daily tasks, as well completing duties in their absence. As an important part of Facilities Management, you will join a small and friendly team who strive to create a safe environment, as well as safe equipment, for our team and everyone who visits our sites.

In return, we are offering an hourly rate of £10.67 per hour, complete with company benefits, discounts and pension, 20 days annual holiday, plus bank holiday, rising to 25 days with 5 years’ service.

This is a permanent role working full-time, 40 hours per week, mainly Monday to Friday. There will be an expectation to be available to work some weekends. The main location will be around our Thirsk and Harewood Whin sites, as a central hub for our operations across all of North Yorkshire.



To succeed in this position, it is essential that the successful candidate have a valid full UK driving licence and access to a private vehicle. This is because the role requires driving to multiple locations as part of the working day using Yorwaste vehicles, and reliable commuting to locations not accessible via public transport.

Desirable characteristics would be an understanding and knowledge of maintenance, with particular focus on mechanical maintenance being extremely desirable.
