Our Campsite Waste Collection Process

  • We’ll assess your campsite’s waste management needs, including the size of the site, the number of visitors you receive, and any unique requirements you might have.
  • Once your bins have been delivered, we’ll start collecting your waste using our dedicated fleet. We try to make collections at times that will minimise disruption to your business.
  • Your waste will be transferred to one of our local waste transfer stations in North Yorkshire, where it can be sorted into separate waste streams and prepared for further processing.
  • Any recyclable waste is transported to our state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Harewood Whin near York, where it’s sorted before sent for processing at off-site partner facilities.
  • As far as possible, we work to ensure that any remaining non-recyclable waste is diverted from landfill. Through our collaboration with Allerton Waste Recovery Park.

Your Waste Journey

Where does the waste go?

  • Initially, your waste will be transported to a local waste transfer station. Here, recyclable waste may be separated for onward transport to reprocessors, to be made into new products. Unrecyclable waste will be bulked up for transport to the county’s Energy from Waste facility, to be used as fuel to generate electricity.

  • We partner with Allerton Waste Recovery Park to ensure as much non-recyclable waste as possible is turned into energy for the local North Yorkshire area. We put the waste hierarchy at the very heart of our business, and do all we can to increase waste reduction, reuse and recycling where possible.

  • From community initiatives, such as Reuse Santa and Get Re-Cycling, to our team of recycling experts working closely with businesses to help their overall waste management strategies and maximise their recycling efforts.

  • The energy from recovered waste in Yorkshire currently powers around 40,000 homes in the Yorkshire area. By incinerating non-recyclable waste, we’re able to convert rubbish into energy!

  • The ash that is produced during this process is also recycled to create materials for the construction industry, further closing the gap in waste production in the Yorkshire area. It’s even estimated that 2.5% of the UK’s energy is powered by recycled materials, so why not join the cause and be an advocate for environmentally friendly waste management?

Legal Compliance

  • The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 require businesses to;

  • Sort and store waste safely and securely

  • Ensure that you or your waste carrier has a valid waste carriers license and are registered to dispose of waste.

  • Failure to comply can risk a criminal conviction, fines, and seizure of assets. By signing up to Yorwaste you are meeting your obligation without the hassle of navigating through the legislation yourself.

FAQs

Why do campsites need a waste management service?

For campsites and holiday parks, effective waste management is essential. You need to ensure that you meet stringent government regulations while also providing a pleasant environment for visitors.

At the same time, sustainability considerations are more important than ever. You’ll want to preserve the natural beauty of your site for the long-term and avoid any waste pollution. A focus on the environment is also key to attracting visitors, with the public more willing than ever to support businesses that are eco-friendly – and avoid those that aren’t.

Meeting these expectations is no simple task. With much of your site’s waste generated by visitors who may be spread across a large area and not easily monitored, you may find yourself struggling to keep up. And that’s why working with a waste management company like Yorwaste is a great option. We can ensure your campsite waste is dealt with in an efficient and environmentally friendly way, while you focus on running your business.

Is Yorwaste’s campsite waste management service eco-friendly?

Yes, at Yorwaste we are committed to helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint and minimise their environmental impact. Our campsite waste management service focuses on reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and ensuring that recyclable materials are converted back into useful resources. Thanks to our state-of-the-art MRF at Harewood Whin near York, we can reduce the amount of your waste that ends up in landfill and ensure you are contributing to the circular economy.

What types of waste do campsites produce?

One of the key challenges of campsite waste management is the range of waste streams that sites produce. This often includes:

  • General waste including non-recyclable plastic, contaminated food packaging, and discarded camping equipment.
  • Food waste generated by visitors as well as any on-site cafes or restaurants.
  • Dry mixed recycling including glass, cardboard and metals from food and drink packaging.
  • Hazardous waste including propane canisters, cleaning supplies, batteries and wastewater from toilet or showering facilities.
  • Confidential waste including customer information, booking records and payment details.

Tackling these diverse waste streams effectively can be a significant challenge. That’s why working with campsite waste management experts like Yorwaste is the ideal way to solve your waste challenges.

How can campsites reduce the amount of waste they generate?

Keeping your campsite pristine is vital if you want your visitors to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of nature – but the more waste you generate, the harder this is to achieve. You can reduce the waste your campsite produces by:

  • Educating your visitors. Make sure everyone staying on the site understands the impact that unnecessary waste can have and provide advice on eco-friendly camping.
  • Providing water refill stations. This can help reduce the amount of disposable water or drinks bottles your visitors use and reduce your plastic waste.
  • Engaging with your local community. Taking part in any waste reduction or recycling initiatives in your area can benefit your campsite while also giving back to the local environment.
  • Working with like-minded companies. Choose suppliers who are committed to limiting the amount of packaging they use and ensuring it is easily recyclable.

These strategies can help limit the waste you generate, making it easier for you to keep your campsite looking spotless even through the busy summer season. But it’s also important to focus on ensuring that the waste you generate is disposed of effectively – and that’s where Yorwaste comes in. Get in touch today to find out how we can help.

How much does a campsite waste management service cost?

The cost of a campsite waste management service will depend on a wide range of factors, including the size of your site, the number of visitors you receive, and any on-site amenities like restaurants, cafes or shops.

At Yorwaste, all of our waste management plans are tailored to your specific needs and we only charge you for the exact services you use. If you’d like to get a clear sense of how much campsite waste management will cost your business, get in touch today.

Why should campsites increase the amount they recycle?

Increasing the recycling rate for your campsite will have a range of benefits, including:

  • Protecting the environment. The spectacular countryside of North Yorkshire is a major attraction for campers. By increasing your recycling rate, you’ll be helping to ensure people will be flocking to visit for the foreseeable future.
  • Attracting eco-conscious campers. Holidaymakers are increasingly willing to prioritise environmental concerns when deciding where to stay. By recycling more of your waste, you can showcase your green credentials to potential visitors.
  • Improving the visitor experience. Making it easier for visitors to recycle means they won’t need to spend time looking for a bin or be forced to take rubbish away with them. It will also help to reduce the risk of littering.
  • Staying compliant. The UK government is continuing to explore initiatives to increase recycling rates, and it is likely that regulations will evolve in the coming years. By prioritising recycling now, you’ll be certain to stay ahead of any changes.
  • Saving money. Diverting more of your waste from landfill can reduce your landfill tax liability and even secure rebates based on the volume of recyclable waste you generate.

Taken together, these benefits can have a significant impact on your business – and on the environment, too. If you need help boosting your recycling rate, get in touch with Yorwaste today. Our dedicated campsite waste management service makes it simple for you to minimise your environmental impact and address your most pressing waste challenges.
