Services We Offer in Scarborough

General Waste

General waste we collect goes to Allerton Waste Recovery Park, generating electricity to power 40,000 homes across Yorkshire yearly.

Dry Mixed Recycling

We always encourage our customers to recycle when they can. We aim to push our recycling rate up by diverting more waste from recovery to recycling. Recommended to restaurants, pubs and hotels.

Glass Waste

Glass is 100% recyclable and can be infinitely processed without losing any of its original quality.

Recommended to businesses such as hotels and pubs which might create a lot of glass waste.

Food Waste

Food waste we collect will go through anaerobic digestion – microorganisms can be used to break down your waste organically. It is a greener and more cost-effective solution than general waste recovery.

Bins and Bin Bags

Our trusty wheelie bins come in many sizes made with recyclable plastic or metal. Lock lids are available.

Pre-paid bin bags are also available for businesses with small quantities of waste.

Skips and ROLs

Our skips and Roll On Roll Offs are for anyone who produces waste in large volumes and helps keep them compact. Helps you save space and minimise disruptions to your location.

Recommended to manufacturers, suppliers, construction businesses and hotels with large amounts of waste.

Community Engagement

We care about the communities we work with. No matter where you are, our goal is to provide a tailored service that suits your needs as both a company and the area you reside. We try our utmost to ensure we close the gap in the waste economy, offering recycling services and Energy From Waste which goes straight back into the local area. Some of our recent community engagement efforts include our annual GET reCYCLING campaign and Reuse Santa Appeal.

What commercial waste management services do you provide in Scarborough?
Who manages Scareborough's domestic waste?

Scarborough District Council managed the household waste collection for Scarborough tips and Scarborough recycling bins, this is also the case for all surrounding areas. Since 2007, the percentage of waste sent for reuse, recycling and compost has greatly increased, showing a shift in perception and attitudes amongst the local population.

Scarborough’s domestic waste is now managed by North Yorkshire Council.

What is the recycling rate of Scarborough?

In 2007, only 28.8% of household waste was sent for reuse, placing Scarborough far below the national average. In the years following, the community took great steps forward and managed to raise this percentage to 44.1% in 2015, over 2% above the national average. Unfortunately, this rate has reduced year on year and now stands at 36.10%, below the national average but still 20% above the national minimum.

Fly-tipping was also a significant problem in the Scarborough community, which has slowly, but surely, been curbed. In 2014-2015, over 2100 reports of fly-tipping were filed to the Scarborough District Council (now part of North Yorkshire Council). Thankfully, by 2018-2019, this figure had been dramatically reduced to 167, a reflection of the commitment that both the council and population have made to improving the local environment.

What groups in Scarborough are tackling social and environmental issues?

Scarborough’s local environment is supported by the Scarborough Environmental Group (SEG). Comprised of like-minded individuals living in and around the area, the SEG aims to preserve the greater Scarborough area, making it a safe haven for nature and a pleasant place to live in. The group takes part in a wide range of activities throughout the year including opening walking trails, picking up dog mess, litter picking in public areas and creating better lines of communication so that the important environmental issues facing the area are properly addressed.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scarborough Community Kitchen was set up by a group of local people in order to ensure that the most vulnerable in the community were being properly looked after. 16 businesses banded together to collect, prepare and deliver the food, relying completely on donations from shops and the generosity of the local people.
