Who manages Ripon's household waste?

Ripon’s household waste collection was managed by Harrogate District Council, the district they cover incorporates dozens of towns and villages around Harrogate, serving a population of over 160,000. The Harrogate District Council had managed to greatly improve the percentage of waste being sent for reuse, recycling, or compost over the last 13 years.

Ripon’s domestic waste is now managed by North Yorkshire Council.

What is the recycling rate of Ripon?

In 2007/08, the Harrogate District Council (now part of North Yorkshire Council) reported that only 25.3% of waste was being sent for reuse, this was 8 percent lower than the national average and 12 percent higher than the worst performer in the country. Over the course of the next 6 years, however, the district was able to make consistent year-on-year improvements, leading to an all-time high of 41.3% in 2014/15. Since then, recycling and reuse rates had remained more or less the same, at around 40%, just a couple of points below the national average.

What initiatives promote environmental awareness in Ripon?

Luckily, there are a number of environmentally-focused groups that are constantly campaigning to improve the local environment, as well as Ripon’s environmental impact on the world at large.
