About Us
Would you like to know a little bit about us?
We are ‘Yorlocal’ waste provider. Owned by North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council, we employ over 250 members of the local community, manage over half a million tonnes of waste per year and carry out 550,000 trade waste and commercial bin collections across North Yorkshire.
Through our ‘Waste No More’ integrated waste management approach, our guiding principle is to provide customers with sustainable, innovative and economical waste management solutions.
One of our major strengths is that we offer a comprehensive collection service. Furthermore, we have a wide range of local in-house waste processing solutions. Hence, this uniquely provides our customers with uncomplicated and transparent audit trails.
Yorwaste is wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council and City of York Council. As such, all shareholder dividends are reinvested back into our local community, supporting local council services and making sure money is kept within the local area, helping to drive its development.

Really must congratulate Yorwaste on your excellent communication and prompt action when the Government lockdown was implemented. They do a great job, keep up the good work Yorwaste!
Very helpful staff from the lads in the office to those in the yard. Able to provide me with a quick solution to get rid of commercial waste at a time when it is difficult to do so.
Since moving to Yorwaste in early 2019 we have seen a marked improvement on reliable and consistent delivery collections. Great service!
Certifications
As a responsible company it is essential to maintain the highest standards of environmental performance. One of the ways we demonstrate this is through the certifications we hold. We have been certified to the internationally recognised Environmental and Quality standards ISO14001, ISO 45001 & 9001 for many years.
Companies like Yorwaste must meet the latest version of these standards by 2018. But, we set ourselves the objective of achieving this in 2016. Following independent audits carried out by ISOQAR we achieved these standards two years ahead of schedule. Maintaining these prestigious standards gives a clear message to everyone about Yorwaste’s commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner.
We’re committing to an industry leading health and safety culture throughout the organisation. A three year health and safety improvement strategy is helping to achieve this objective and prevent injuries occurring. Significantly, in 2015/16 our all injury rate improved by 45%, lost time injuries improved by 13% and our RIDDOR incident rate improved by 40%.
Independent certification of our health and safety management systems are maintained via two nationally recognised schemes. These are Safecontractor and the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment (CHAS). In addition, we carry out regular safety climate surveys with staff.
