Composting

Composting saves energy, reduces air and water pollution, provides a way of reducing the volume of organic waste that needs to be disposed of and converts organic waste matter into a product that is useful for gardening, landscaping, agriculture or landfill restoration.

Yorwaste operates four composting operations across North Yorkshire and the City of York and in 2005/06 composted over 30,000 tonnes of green waste collected from our public and private sector customers.

We also market our composted green waste as a soil conditioner known as Green Grown and we are a preferred supplier of green waste compost to the Apex Partnership, an organisation that manufactures and markets organic green composts and soil improvers from recycled garden waste.
