WEEE

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive now requires all electrical equipment, including televisions, microwaves and fax machines, to be diverted away from landfill.

Yorwaste recognised the impact of this directive at a very early stage and is a joint owner of the Electrical Recycling Company (ERC), a company that recycles all types of WEEE and finds recyclate markets for its by-products, particularly concentrating on Cathode Ray Tubes.

ERC's system is capable of processing in excess of 55 CRTs an hour and once all the components of the television have been dismantled and the CRT processed, ERC has markets for over 90% of the recycled material.
