Staff at Yorwaste are preparing for a charity marathon challenge to mark the company’s 25th anniversary.
Twelve people – Mary Meyer, Steve Midgley, Emma Bagley, Callum Duff, Calum Winship, Graham Ashurst, Ryan Law, Gill Bowe, Sandra Twinn, Simon Marshall, Paul Hoaksey and John Newman – will be running in the Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay on 14th October.
They will be raising money for Yorwaste’s 25th anniversary charity of the year, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
Each will run a leg of the relay which will take them through the City of York and surrounding countryside, equalling the marathon distance of 26.2 miles in total.
Mary Meyer, Yorwaste’s HR Manager, said: “We wanted to do something special to mark Yorwaste’s 25th anniversary and with lots of keen runners in the company, the Yorkshire Relay Marathon is perfect for us.
“We were keen to support a local charity and ensure any money we raise remains in the area, so we are pleased to have chosen the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
“They have nature reserves across our operating area and are committed to creating and protecting wildlife-rich landscapes and seas.
“This is very much aligned with what we are striving to achieve as an environmentally conscious, local company. This has included providing funding, through our environmental arm, of over £14 million to environmental and community projects close to our sites over the last 25 years.
“We have now started fundraising and hope to raise as much money as possible for the Trust.”
